drei .416 Barret MSG
Original Designs (not mine above) by Åke Nilsson and Pete Forras
The Case is calculated with 15,9 ml Volume and so are the Loads. Densities should be kept above 95% for best Results. Densities below 90% risk Detonation.
As always the Bullet is a Compromise. In this Case Pete Forest's Case is too large, too voluminous to allow for a LM-Class Bullet. The sectional has to be kept at Bay, to allow to load available Powders and burn them in reasonable length Barrel. The .50 BMG type Powders are the slowest general available Propellants. Those ask her already for a 1014 mm (40") an 450 MPa Pressure, or a good 20% above .50 BMG Pressures. So the Cartridge is at the Limit. At this Size it cannot be loaded better, nor can a better Bullet than the .416 Barrett MSG be fired.

The Barrel needs an Exhaust to vent the 76 MPa pressures Powder combustion gasses sideways, to leave the Bullet undisturbed. The nice Side effect is, this Exhaust brakes the Recoil, as the retarded Gases pull the Barrel forward, after the Acceleration pushes it backwards. Be sure to use good Ear protection, when firing with this Exhaust and those Powder masses! Do not ruin Your ears with 200 Pa Blasts! Every singe Event counts! The Exhaust may be encapsuled in a Liter closed Volume, to cut the Sound pressure.
Hallo Anders,
with 1016 mm Barrel Your Rifle will be a Monster, a potent one! Look at the Wind drift. You halve the Standard .338 LM Lockbase Loads Wind drift, or in other Words, double the Performance. With the daunting Speed, from such a Big Banger, you shot flatter and further than most.
The Twist is with 279 mm moderate. NO longer Bullets are possible from the Powders. They constitute the Design limits. The Rest follows consequential. So there is nothing left to discuss. Take it or leave it.
Lutz
Lutz,
I sent the barrel manufacturer an e-mail. If they have not started to make the barrel yet. They can make me a couple of 40" tubes. If so, I might have the possibility to also change the twist to maybe 1:11" (1:279,4 mm) if this is more ideal for the bullet.
LM: Yes!
I have not got an answer from them yet.
We had to take the actions trough
Lilja Barrels, because they have the needed license to deal with export
of weapon parts. They charged I think 175$ for this job. The action came for
2300$ + a 95$ 30 MoA rail. I cant remember what we payed in shipping, but on
top of all this we must pay a 25% tax. No special import tax for this Kind
of parts in to Norway. But with the US-Dollar so low combined with a strong
Norwegian Kr it didn't turn out so bad. They call it a "high-end" benchrest
action.
Trigger is extra. Will get a
Jewell.
Will this muzzle brake this one derect enough of the
gases backwards?
LM: Yes!
I always thought that a clamshell-type (ugly, I know) with large ports
directed backwards would be the most efficient,
but you seem to know a thing or two about these things, and the design makes
it very easy to make, so why not.

Hi Lutz,
thanks for good info I’ll save
this page with very interesting pictures.
This ”short “Barrett-version” is very similar with my short model from
1997-1998 but with special slower burning powder.
You can get Vo 1150 ms and little + over that with a 350gr bullet in the
full-length case from a 36” barrel. Twist: 1- (11 -12 ) Both pitches are OK.

Lutz,
Jeder macht, was er will!
Die throat Zeichnung sieht O. K. aus.
Was kosten mich einige Ihrer .416 MSG?
LM: Siehe Keine Werbemuster und Mindermengen!

Hi Lutz!
Got the bullets yesterday.
WOW! They look excellent! The shape and finish is great. They look like
business.
Thank you. Mvh Anders Hopen, Norge
Hallo Anders,
the Captain must have Circlet Spitzbergen on the Way to You to take so long
time.
Please keep me updated (Words, Pictures)
